Before complaining that you are a slave to another, be sure that you are not a slave to self. Look within; look searchingly, and have no mercy upon yourself. You may find there, slavish thoughts or desires, and in your daily life and conducts, slavish habits. Conquer these; cease to be a slave to self and no man will have the power to enslave you. As you overcome self, you will gradually overcome all unwanated conditions, and every difficulty will fall before you.
The journey to fulfilment actually begins with a journey towards conquering self. The value a man places on himself determines his actions and response to events and activities from his environment. If that value is low, he lamely REACTS to issues, but if it’s high, he RESPONDS instead. It’s rather amazing when people who can not govern themselves or predict their own behavior per circumstance venture out into management, leadership or governance. The whole organization then simply runs with a chemistry of uncertainty, simply because the Boss is unpredictable:

Feelings are much like waves, we can’t stop them from coming but we can choose which ones to attend to, and which ones to discard. The way to do that is to always be sober, quick to hear, but slow to speak and learn to respond composedly to issues rather than merely react in obedience to feelings.
