KEEP THE PASSION BURNING

David Adeniji

So then, the other day, I ran into an old friend of mine. He had traveled out of the country immediately we finished our first degree. He wasn’t a bad student back then. We worked together through many of our courses and exams. He quickly recognized me, before I could recollect it was him. His hug was near that of a bear.

We’ll, “I’m an Edupreneur”, was my reply when he asked me “what do you do?.

“What do you mean Edupreneur? You Nigerians and strange grammar, even _oyinbo_ people who own the language don’t coin words like you do”. He then told me he works with a finance house. He’s planning to start a business in Nigeria and he’s been advised to start a school since “there is money in it”. I laughed.

I quickly remembered that some of my friends 10 years ago had the same notion about school business. They came into it, they thrived, but now they seem to want something more. Now here’s the ‘something more’

*Passion is like fire, if it’s not fueled, it burns out*

You could start a school with few kindagarten kids, very soon, they become graduates right before your eyes and then come back to meet you in that same school. While that could be very cheering and fulfilling, it should also call for a holistic assessment of ones life and person as per growth. I have said it before and I will say it again. If you’re into the business of education, you should also continue being educated. And if you think I’m stating the obvious, then let’s take a poll of school runners and their levels of education.

Many people think Msc is only for job seekers, they think PhD is only for lecturers. They think ICAN is only for accountants, they think MBA is only for businessmen. Many believe online courses are only for the youth. Some have not acquired any certification in the last five years. We’re in the education industry and so we must never get to the peak of learning.

But why is it a big deal?

Your never ending exposure to learning is what keeps your passion burning and keeps everything about you exciting. Learning makes you keep casting new visions, setting new limits, defining new meanings for life and meeting new people as you go. Just running a school will not do all that for you

I will close this morning with the words of a wise man

Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young. Attend the OUTDOOR SESSION thus Wednesday and learn with great minds. Happy Sunday
