SEE THE BIG PICTURE

During a visit to the NASA space center in 1962, President John F. Kennedy noticed a janitor carrying a broom. He interrupted, walked over to the man and said, “Hi, I’m John Kennedy. What are you doing?”

“Well, Mr. President,” the janitor responded, “I’m helping to put a man on the moon.”

To most people, this janitor was just cleaning the building. But in the larger story unfolding around him, he was helping to make history. And when you and your entire team embraces that type of attitude and belief system, incredible things happen.

According to John Nemo, Here’s the point: No matter how large or small your role, you are contributing to the larger story unfolding within your life, your business and your organization.

You’re a significant portion of the big picture. That’s the reason why you cannot be on the fence. Whether you are aware or nor, you are part of an unfolding story. If you’re conscious of that, your actions and attitudes will better tell that story and further push that course. Results will come faster not just for the big picture, but as lights of fulfilment within you. So today, think and create better ways to go about everything you do. But don’t just think, do.

That janitor sees himself as helping  to put a man on the moon, because that is the ultimate goal of his organization. Teachers could see themselves as helping to raise future transformers – because that is the ultimate goal of education – rather than just working to earn pay. School owners could see themselves as raising and mentoring an army of liberated intellectuals – because that is the ultimate goal of education leadership – rather than just running a business for profit. Parents should see themselves as baking a new and delicate generation, rather than just training up their own children.

According to a wise man, “To be a champion, I think you have to see the big picture. Details create the big picture. The trick to forgetting the big picture is to look at everything close-up and personal. Sometimes you have to disconnect to stay connected. If you just focus on the smallest details, you never get the big picture right.”

The big picture is the real picture. Focusing on yourself brings little results. Identifying our position of the bigger picture brings more liberation, fulfilment and speed. Have a blessed day!
