TAKE ACTION…AGAINST ALL ODDS

Ever heard of the phrase Analysis Paralysis ? It is the state of over-analysing (over-thinking) a situation so that a decision or action is never taken, in effect paralyzing the outcome.

When you set out to execute any project, as little a picking up a shirt from the clothes store or as huge a constructing a new estate, it’s important you analyze the process from start to finish but it’s dangerous to over analyze as though you can analyze away every risk involved. If you’re dealing with very analytic people or people who disguise their laziness, laxities, ineptitude or outright unwillingness with clean analysis, be careful they may paralyze your dream. Make sure you don’t also hinder yourself by over analyzing every situation or risks involved in a process. It leads to paralysis. You may never be able to get started.

The solution is to dream the idea, chart a course for it, put your team together, draw up a plan and start something as quick as possible…even while you’re still planning. You cannot possibly analyze every risk involved in a process – Identify just those that are fairly likely. Make a goal, write it down. Break it into sub-goals that when achieved will accomplish the big goal. Start with the sub goal that is the simplest. Move on to the next one. Dont think about the big goal. Think about the sub goals. If you won’t create a goal plan, it doesn’t matter what you do, you’re not going to achieve it.

Also, there’s this problem of inaction, so much goal planning, yet no movement. The problem is you’re creating too many options to achieve a sub goal. Limit your options to just two and you can easily choose one. You want to go shopping and you have 7 stores in mind. You may never go. But it will be easier to choose from just 2 options.

Final word: Just do something. It could be right, it could be wrong, but you’ve done something. If it’s wrong, you learn a lesson, if it’s right, you cover a milestone. Do something just to get moving. And in that movement, you will find direction.  Cut off the “what ifs”. What if this? what if that? You can’t just lie there and do nothing. Just do something. Do it!…It’s the solution to indecision and inaction.
